Former Benedict QB Named Humanitarian of the Year

The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame has named Anderson native and former T.L. Hanna High star athlete Ramon Robinson its Humanitarian of the Year, the organization announced Monday.

Robinson operates Elite Position Training, a nonprofit collective of sports instructors who mentor young athletes throughout the state. The organization offers personal football skill training, educational assistance and college preparation resources.

Since 2011, Robinson’s team of fellow former standout athletes have helped more than 100 South Carolina athletes earn college scholarships. Robinson’s group of mentees includes Clemson University quarterback Kelly Bryant and University of South Carolina quarterback Jay Urich. Elite Position Training also has clients at Furman, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Temple.

After leading the state in passing as a senior in 1993, Robinson proceeded to a record-setting career at Benedict College. He played professionally in the Canadian Football and Arena Football Leagues before returning to the Upstate.

Robinson is the fifth recipient of the SCFHOF Humanitarian Award. Previous honorees were South Carolina sports commissioner Paul Kennemore, former college football coach and Fellowship of Christian Athletes president Dal Shealy, Coastal Carolina coach Joe Moglia and former sports agent Mike Brown.
