Congratulations are again in order for FVSU alum and football great Tyrone Poole for being nominated and placed on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame. Poole is among 176 former players and 38 coaches on the ballot this year. This has been a special year for the Wildcat as he received his degree from FVSU 27 years after leaving school to pursue a professional career in football.
Poole was a dual sport student athlete when he attended FVSU from 1991-94. Some of his accomplishments include being named All-American in track where he placed second in the 200 meter dash at the NCAA Championships as well as in football where he helped his team win the SIAC championship in 1992. A native of Lagrange, Georgia, the Wildcat is the only first round draft pick (22nd overall) in the history of the storied Wildcat football program that has seen at least a dozen of its players go on to play professional football. As a professional he played 13 seasons in the NFL winning two super bowl rings with the New England Patriots.
The finalist for the 2019 class will be announced in January during the College Football Playoff National Championship festivities. The 2019 class will be inducted during the 62nd National Football Foundation (NFF) Annual Awards Dinner on December 10, 2019 in New York.
